Individual Awards

BOMA Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beaches proudly recognizes outstanding service and contributions within our property management community. Each year, individual members are honored for their excellence, leadership, and commitment to advancing both the association and the commercial real estate industry. Awards are presented at the annual TOBY® Awards Gala and include:

  • Property Manager of the Year
  • Building Engineer of the Year
  • Outstanding Member of the Year
  • Associate Member of the Year
  • Rising Star Nominations

These nominations are accepted year-round.

Outstanding Member of the Year
  • The nominee may be in any member category.
  • The nominee should promote BOMA Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches with the highest level of active involvement in the association by attending most or all functions, providing sponsorships or other support, and is active with committees and/or Board involvement.
  • The nominee displays a high level of professionalism and contributes to the organization and the Commercial Real Estate industry, over and above usual levels of participation.
  • The nominee may not have won this award in the last two years.
Building Manager of the Year
  • The nominee must be a building or facilities engineer for commercial, retail, industrial, flex, medical, or any combination thereof, for real estate property in Broward, Palm Beach, or Martin County.
  • The nominee should actively seek BOMA associate members for consideration on any contracts for the managed property. 
  • The nominee should provide a high level of professionalism when dealing with clients, other BOMA members, and the commercial real estate community.
  • Nominee operates the facility to the highest standard in accordance with BOMA’s, TOBY guidelines.
  • For a Building Engineer to be eligible to receive an award, there must be one fully paid member of their firm.
  • To be eligible, the nominee may not have won the award in the last two years.
Property Manager of the Year
  • The nominee should actively seek BOMA associate members for consideration on any contracts for the managed property.
  • The nominee is known for providing a high level of professionalism when dealing with clients, other BOMA members, and the commercial real estate community.
  • Manages the property to the highest standards in accordance with BOMA’s TOBY guidelines.
Associate Member of the Year
  • The nominee should promote BOMA Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches with a high level of active involvement in the association.  
  • Nominee attends most or all functions, provides sponsorships or other active support, is active with committee involvement, membership promotion, etc., over and above general membership. 
  • The nominee is known for providing a high level of professionalism when dealing with clients, other BOMA members, and the commercial real estate community.
  • To be eligible, the nominee may not have won the award in the last two years.
Rising Star of the Year

  • The nominee may be in any member category but must have been a member for less than 24 months.  
  • The nominee should promote BOMA Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches with a high level of active involvement in the association by attending most or all functions, providing sponsorships or other active support, and being active with committee involvement and membership promotion for the benefit of the organization.
  • Nominee consistently demonstrates high professionalism when interacting with clients, fellow BOMA members, and the broader commercial real estate community.

The Ron Macklin Memorial Scholarship

BOMA Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beaches proudly established The Ron Macklin Scholarship Fund in memory of a deeply respected commercial real estate professional in South Florida. Ron Macklin was the President of our local and contributed greatly.  Scholarship applicants must be entering, pursuing or engaged in a career in Property Management or Facilities Management. In addition, the recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a local BOMA Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beaches member in good standing. If a building engineer, there must be at least one paid local BOMA member in their firm.
